A not-so guilty pleasure? Nestlé promises greener Easter eggs

Nestlé becomes first major confectioner to use 100 per cent recyclable packaging around its Easter eggs.

Nestlé has today been hailed as the first major confectioner to package its Easter eggs in only recyclable materials, in a move designed to slash the vast amounts of waste produced by chocolate lovers over the bank holiday weekend.

Easter eggs create around 3,000 tonnes of waste each year, from rigid plastic packaging encasing the fragile chocolate shells.

But this year, Nestlé UK & Ireland has replaced the plastic casing with cardboard in its mug eggs, in the hope that it will divert 726 tonnes of plastic waste from going to landfill each year.
